Guy Arneson is becoming completely sincere whilst he titles his collection of poems A Life in Poetry (Xlibris, 2009). The speaker in these poems lays bare the life of a man who's fallen deeply in really like, only to have that really like betrayed. In the depths of his despair, he turned to God for comfort. All the although he prayed God would send him an angel, a lady he may well respect and who would not repeat the tragedy of his heartbreak.
The poems which address this tale of loss and redemption dominate the collection, and variety in emotional tone from blissful to sad to bitter. The greatest of these are the blissful poems, which includes the eloquent ode "You happen to be Lady" and the earthy "My Child Back." "My Infant Back" is an exploration on the themes of physical really like and meals, twin pleasures in a sensual feast. Really like a fantastic nation or blues song, "My Infant Back" is not also self-conscious to get silly:
"And if you asked
what I appreciate the most
"I'd have to say
Your juicy rump roast"
The most amusing poem in this series may well be "Stuck on Stupid," in which he admits he and his new enjoy could be rather dim, but he does not thoughts, mainly because she is attractive and he's fallen in like with her. But if you happen to be seeking for a poem to recite at a wedding or on a different romantic occasion, you can not go incorrect with the collection's opening verse, "My Heart," or the beautiful, chant-adore "To Be One."
The poems' adore-struck speaker turns to God at other instances, as well, as whilst he feels frustrated at the quantity of hate and misunderstanding in the planet. Poems including "Smoke and Mirror Alibi," "A Baby Cried," and "Cosmic Father" touch on existing events, which includes the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and express the speaker's really like for his fellow human beings more than all religious and political variations.
Other religious imagery in this collection is a lot more classic. There are some poems of praise, but Arenson's creativity as a storyteller comes by means of greatest whilst he puts a Biblical story into his personal words. There are 3 such poems in this collection ("Apocalyte," "The Creation," and "A Baby Is Born"), and they stand amongst his greatest.
Along with a like of God, the poems express a really like of nature and a concern for the atmosphere. Mostly, though, they concentrate on the loving bond involving man and God and the complicated, in some cases painful connection among man and lady. Whilst some of Arenson's rhymed poetry has a tendency toward the clear, A Life in Poetry will appeal to each lovers of Christian poetry and lovers of like poetry.
